Some More Great Moving Tips

As we get closer to summer the end of the school year, many Des Moines families will be taking advantage of the nice weather and their childrens' summer vacations to move to a new home. So even though we went over some moving tips last time, let's talk about a few more.

- Make a list: Make sure you have a list of all your possessions and don't be afraid to be specific. Put a number next to each item in the list.

- Label your boxes: Mark each box with its contents, using the same number as what you have on your list. That way, you'll always know what's inside your boxes. It's also a good idea to label the boxes with what room they need to be delivered to. For example, if a box contains pots and pans, write "Kitchen" on it so you'll be able to put all the boxes into the appropriate rooms based on their contents.

- Prepare enough supplies: You're going to need more boxes, tape and other supplies than you initially think. And it's much better to be over-prepared than to run out of packing supplies halfway through your packing & moving process. Make sure you have enough of everything, and a few extra boxes for last minute items.

- Use wardrobe boxes - Wardrobe boxes are great for tall and light items like blankets and clothes. Just make sure you don't load them up too heavy, or the bottoms might drop out when you lift them.

- Color coordinate - It's often a good idea to use different colored stickers on your boxes, so that you could assign a different color to each room. Then you could tell your Des Moines movers to put all the blue-sticker boxes in the living room, all the red-sticker boxes in the basement, etc.

Helpful Tips for Moving to a New Home

Moving to a new house is often a stressful experience and often some of the most important things can be overlooked. Here are some tips moving into a new house:

Packing can appear to be a chore when you're trying to remember all the things you need to pack and figure out what to get rid of to reduce the clutter in your new place. Remember to have decide what to bring to your new residence and which things to throw out in advance of your move so that you don’t feel rushed when it's time to act.

Consider giving away possessions that you no longer need to friends and family, if they're still in good condition. Even local charities can be a good option - just try to ensure that nothing still usable is going to waste. Acquire boxes, packing tape and bubble wrap in advance of your move in order to make sure that you have enough moving supplies for the big day.

Make a plan of where each of your boxes and pieces of furniture will go in your new house. That way, when you are bringing your things in, you can put them exactly where they need to go right away instead of having to unpack and go through them later. If it helps, draw a floor plan of your new space and make sure to mark each box with its intended destination within your home. This will make for an efficient unpacking process.
